Road conditions: a wide, well-maintained highway, one of the best in the country. It's fine for any car at any time of year. Expect police checks at Chuzom, where the Paro, Thimphu and Phuentsholing roads meet.
Altitude: Paro (around 2,200 m) and Thimphu (around 2,300 m) are at similar heights, so the drive itself is easy on the body.
Paro Airport to Thimphu: Your Arrival Plan
- Share your flight number when you book; your driver watches for delays.
- Clear immigration and collect bags. Indian travellers get their entry permit here; international travellers present visa clearance.
- Meet your driver outside arrivals, holding a name card.
- Optional stop: the Tamchog iron bridge or the Chuzom confluence, each 10–15 minutes.
- Arrive in Thimphu about 1–1.5 hours after leaving the airport.
